A daring narrative mix of the personal and the political, this film tells the story of the beautiful wife of a wealthy plantation owner who values her safety and material comforts. She carries out a haunted existence, dreaming of her lost love who was murdered during the Indonesian Revolution. She makes an unusual connection with her husband’s younger mistress and the two women find a newfound freedom.
