(Residents Organizing Against Racism)\, present the film Juneteenth: 1865-2021. \nPlease be advised that this film contains sensitive imagery. \nJuneteenth 1865-2021 is a documentary\, created by the KHOU TV11 Staff\, that originally aired on June 16\, 2021\, on KHOU in Houston\, Texas. It tells the history of Juneteenth and its significance in what may be the best available retelling of the meaning of the day. \nJune 19\, 1865 was a date that means so much to Texas and African-Americans. On that day in Galveston\, Texas\, slaves learned they were no longer bound by the slave owners. They were free. Actually realizing that freedom didn’t come easily. ‘Juneteenth:1865-2021’ is a documentary that looks back at the meaning of Juneteenth and its history not only in southeast Texas\, but also its significance for black Americans across the land.

DESCRIPTION:Kevin will provide a description of the tools and materials used for relief wood carving. We are then onto carving our own designs out of a flat piece of basswood. Come to class with a design of your own or choose from one of the suggestions available. DESCRIPTION:On August 27th from 5:30 – 7:00 the Winona Arts Center will begin hosting a series of free lectures on Art history and techniques. This first hourlong lecture will profile Lithography\, a printmaking process that uses a smooth Bavarian Limestone block that has been drawn on with a grease pencil. \nThis series\, led by Preston Lawing\, Professor Emeritus of the Saint Mary’s University Art and Design department\, will cover the history and development of this print form\, and will include many samples of original prints\, actual stone blocks\, drawing tools and photos of presses and historic documents. \nThis event is Free and Open to the Public.
