DESCRIPTION:Instructor: Mary Lee Eischen\nIn this workshop\, we will create a collage of our hopes and dreams for this year of 2023. We’ll begin the workshop with a guided visualization to bring us into relaxation\, connect us with our body and stir our imaginations into making. We’ll have the opportunity to create our own images and designs with paper along with stitching. Images\, words and phrases will be available to use for our creating. The instructor will bring examples and provide a large board to add images along with other materials to guide the making for a fun afternoon of creating our visions for 2023. \nCost: $46 for WAC members and $51 for non-members. \nParticipants are welcome to bring magazines\, fabric\, newspapers\, or other repurposed materials and a favorite scissors. SUMMARY:Sgraffito Tile Class with Richard Spiller
DESCRIPTION:Saturday / March 25\, 2023 / 1:00-3:00pm\nThis class was very popular last year so we are bringing it back this spring. Sgraffito is a pottery decorating technique where multiple layers of colored slips are applied to a leather hard tile and then removed by scratching off successive layers of colors to reveal the layers underneath. \nStudents will each be given 8-inch tiles to draw on the tile and scratch off the excess clay. Students can bring their own drawings or use those provided. The tiles will be fired at Spiller’s studio and returned to participants at a later date. SUMMARY:Sgraffito Tile Workshop with Richard Spiller
DESCRIPTION:Saturday / August 19 / 12:00-3:00pm\nRichard Spiller\, a local potter from Wisconsin\, will present a Sgraffito tile workshop on August 19 from noon to 3 pm. Sgraffito (in Italian\, meaning “to scratch”) is a technique produced by applying a drawing to a hard\, red clay pottery piece and then scratching off parts of the layer to create contrasting images and patterns to reveal the clay color underneath. The tile is 8″ square and a simple design works best for this project. Students can bring their own drawings or use those provided. DESCRIPTION:Winona Arts Center welcomes Jane Bangsberg for an Adult Ukrainian Egg Decorating Class on March 9 from 12:30pm to 4:30pm. Join us in learning to create beautiful heirloom eggs using a wax resist method very similar to batik. SUMMARY:Richard Spiller Pinch Pot Class
DESCRIPTION:Richard Spiller is back at the Winona Arts Center! Register now for his Pinch Pot and Coil Pottery class on March 23 from 12:00pm to 3:00pm. Participants will make small vessels with balls of clay to form pinch pots using a hand-building method of forming pottery by building up walls with rope-like coils of clay. The pots will be fired at Spiller’s Studio. \nCost is $25 for children ages 12 to 16\, $30 for members and $35 for non-members. Payment should be made to Winona Arts Center. Betsy has a double major in Art Education and Art History and was recently chosen for a one-woman show of her work at the LaCrosse Pump House! She has a passion for painting and drawing and has attended many pastel conferences and workshops. \nParticipants in this class will learn all about pastels and the different techniques used in painting with pastels. You will take home 3 different small paintings that you have painted! \nBeginner to Adult painters are welcome – no experience needed. SUMMARY:English Flowers Egg Decorating Class
DESCRIPTION:$35 for members / $40 for non-members \nStudents will create English Flower Eggs. They will bind live flowers and leaves onto blown out eggs with strips of fabric. The eggs will be dyed in an onion skin dye bath. The fabric and flowers will be removed to reveal the finished egg. \nStudents should bring an assortment of flowers and leaves from their gardens to be shared and a pair of scissors.
