SUMMARY:Using MidJourney Artificial Intelligence to Unlock Your Imagination
DESCRIPTION:Morro Schreiber\, local AI artist\, invites you to attend an interactive demonstration of the process she uses to create visual art using Midjourney AI on Discord via the internet.  \nParticipants will be asked to supply suggestions for prompts to submit to MidJourney and will see in real time the effect that altering these prompts has on the resultant artworks.   \nMorro will demonstrate basic MidJourney tools and commands for the latest versions of the AI and will also touch on the evolution of the MidJourney model over the past eighteen months. Many images will be generated and manipulated using participant suggestions\, and artwork will be projected onto the movie screen for easy viewing.  \nParticipants will also receive information on how to open a free Discord account\, join the MidJourney beta\, and continue their own artistic journey hand in hand with their new friend\, the MidJourney bot.  \nThe demonstration will take place in the WAC Gallery on Sunday\, February 25\, 2024\, from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m.  All are welcome\, and there is no cost to attend.  Reservations recommended\, please contact Jen Benson at jsbenson50@gmail.com to reserve your seat today!

SUMMARY:Putting A Value On Your Work – Artist Development Workshop Series w/ Jovy Rockey & Anne Scott Plummer
DESCRIPTION:How do you place a value on a creative work that has come from your own heart and inspiration? How do we\, as artists\, measure our art in terms of time\, financial investment\, and worth? Hear from two artists who have learned a great deal on this topic through their experiences and artistic practices. \nJovy Rockey is a artisan jeweler and owner of ORNO Gift + Home in Winona\, MN. Since 2011\, Jovy has been creating and selling her jewelry direct to clients\, at fine art and craft festivals\, small markets\, and in boutiques and galleries. Her experience as an artist and as a shop owner has given her a robust understanding of the importance and the challenges of how you place value on your work. In June of 2019\, Jovy wrote a feature article in the online publication\, Handmade Sellers Magazine\, which highlights the thought process behind raising her prices and the ways it benefitted her business. Over the years\, Jovy has empowered many artists to prioritize their art and to understand how pricing impacts their livelihood. \nAnne Scott Plummer is a ceramic artist who creates both functional pottery and sculpture. She has made a livelihood from these pursuits for several decades\, and has approached the question of putting a value on her work from many angles. She has sold her work through galleries\, stores\, art fairs\, online\, and from her studio. Her current studio is Island City Clayspace\, a storefront in downtown Winona\, where she periodically organizes a pop-up gallery\, and also sells her work at other local galleries\, art fairs and the farmer’s market. She is a retired art professor\, and has helped many students investigate the critical issue of valuing their work. “Artwork has a personal value for artists\, but that is not the same as the market value of a piece of art. Research can help artists understand the potential market value of their work\, and to identify the best market places to sell their work\,” she suggests. “Showing their work\, and talking to other artists\, gallerists\, and arts professionals can help an artist value their work for the marketplace.” \nREGISTRATION: https://northfieldartsguild.org/education/community-artmaking/artist-development-workshop-series-2024/

SUMMARY:Art Opening for Winona Figure Drawing Group
DESCRIPTION:Throughout the ages\, the center of art has been the human form. Our brains are hardwired to seek out connections with our fellow humans — two dots and a curved line become a smiling face\, we can see people in the shapes of clouds and shadows. Whether crude stick figures\, near photographic renderings\, chiseled sculptures\, or artistic abstractions\, the human body has been a continual source of artistic inspiration. \nThe tradition continues and Figure Drawing carries on that sense of artistic wonder. A model poses before us and we attempt to capture the essence of the pose\, the twist of the form through space\, the light and shade\, the musculature and folds of skin\, as others have done before us time immemorial. \nNudity Disclaimer: Please be advised that some of the artworks featured in this exhibit may contain nudity.

SUMMARY:The River Connects Us: Photographs by Pete Mutschler & Poetry by Tom Gillaspy
DESCRIPTION:Opening Reception:\nSunday / January 19\, 2025 / 1:00pm – 4:00pm\nExhibit Dates:\nJanuary 19 – March 2\, 2025\nThe Mississippi River is the backbone of the United States. Its waters carry our grain\, our ore\, our history\, our dreams. Creations of music\, art\, and stories are deposited on the flood plains of Old Muddy. Pete’s images explore the unique and sometimes hidden culture that flows from this Great River\, from the headwaters in Northern Minnesota to the delta south of New Orleans. Tom’s poetry provides a sensitive and sometimes powerful reflection inspired by the images. While each photograph/poem pair provides a single snapshot in time of a small piece of the river experience\, the viewer is connected through the shared experiences of everyone who lives near the river. The overall goal of this exhibit is to show how the Mississippi River experience is powerful\, making us stronger than the divisions that are receiving so much attention these days.\n \n\nPete Mutschler is a Winona MN based photographer and Tom Gillaspy is a Stillwater MN poet.\n \n\nWAC activities are made possible by the voters of Minnesota through a grant from the Southeastern MN Arts Council thanks to a legislative appropriation from the arts and cultural heritage fund.

SUMMARY:The Landscape of Guitar: Paintings by Bruce Hecksel
DESCRIPTION:The Landscape of Guitar: Paintings by Bruce Hecksel\nOpening Reception\nSunday / September 21 / 1:00PM – 4:00PM\nExhibit Dates: September 21 – October 18\, 2025\nTerra Guitarra® (Landscape of Guitar) is the original painting style of Bruce Hecksel. Bruce’s stained-glass like vibrant\, highly textured style is acrylic paint on canvas & board using a combination of dry brushing\, stippling\, impasto\, smudging among other techniques. \n“Composing paintings with guitar trees\, mountains\, rivers\, lakes\, clouds\, birds\, I’m suggesting that all of our reality has a voice. The whole world is literally singing. Once we realize this we then choose to sing in harmony with it or make up our own song.” \nBruce Hecksel was a professional guitarist that performed over 5\,000 concerts in his duo Patchouli & Terra Guitarra. Bruce passed away peacefully July 28\, 2025 from stroke complications after a 3 year battle with cancer. He was always generous with his joy and light and you can see and feel that in each of these featured Landscape of Guitar paintings in this special posthumous exhibit. \nIn place of an artist’s talk\, Bruce’s beloved partner Julie Patchouli will share a few words in his memory and present the animation of The Landscape of Guitar.
